INSTALLATION DOCUMENTS
Round Three: Based around the best performing Mini D2S projector to date, the Morimoto Mini D2S Stage III System features excellent performance at an accessible price. With all the parts options from their big brother bi-xenon projectors, but re-worked into a HID projector kit that's much easier to install; the Morimoto Mini D2S Projectors makes fog light performance more accessible to all.
Projector-Perfection: There are other projectors that produce brighter hot spots. There are other projectors that have unholy amounts of width, but no other option creates the perfect balance of width & hotspot lux (aka distance) quite like the 5.0. In order to create the ultimate weapon for driving in the dark, Morimoto baked in all of the best practices from a variety of well-respected OEM and aftermarket projectors. Their latest and greatest equates to the perfect all-around perfomer. While it's a big boost in the performance department, it's also clear they've paid attention to the details in the parts department too. New bulb holders & lock rings are icing on our projector pie!
Shrouds: Basically, they're the trim piece that adds the finishing touch to your new fog light retrofit. They cover the bi-xenon projector after it's installed to restore the factory-finished look inside the housings. With so many different shapes, sizes, and designs available; we really recommend picking one that suits the geometry inside of your fog lights, and also your personal preference on how they look.
HID Ballasts: Designed in California by Morimoto's engineer, Yoshi Ishida, the Morimoto XB 2.0 HID Ballasts are just as good looking on the outside as they are well-engineered on the inside. They are available in both 35w and 50w versions, use proprietary software by the pros at Hylux paired with packaging perfection from the masters at Morimoto. This is today's most modern iteration of a model that has sold more than half a million units since inception, and we don't think it can really get any better!
D2S HID Bulbs: Homegrown by Morimoto to out-perform any alternatives on the market when installed in projector-based fog lights--and it shows. We admit the latest generation XB HID bulbs are pretty impressive when compared to other bulbs, and even older Morimoto bulbs. At the heart of the XB bulbs is their perfectly-aligned 100% Philips quartz glass capsule that houses high quality halide salts from German-supplier Messer. In our annual lux comparison test, they produced nearly the same lumin Osity (intensity) as the industry benchmark Osram CBI bulbs at 5500K. No, you're not seeing things here, but yes you will be seeing everything at night.
Wire Harness: As one of the most important parts in any HID lighting upgrade; don't skimp out when it comes to your wiring. It doesn't matter how good your ballasts are. How good your bulbs are. If your harness is a piece of crap, when it gives out your fog lights are gonzo. Morimoto's harnesses are the best on the market and easily worth their premium price compared to cheaper alternatives. No matter which one is right for your application, the harness features triple-sealed central relay packs, 14ga stranded copper wiring, over-molded fittings, and plug-n-play functionality. This will ensure everything properly (and permanently) works with your vehicle's original in-cabin controls.
Optional Canbus Harnesses: Instead of a traditional relayed harness that draws power from the battery, Morimoto's Standalone Canbus harnesses use two individual sub-harnesses to keep a load on the factory wiring. Recommended for vehicles that recognize when a bulb is out, these contain a series of capacitors and resistors to trick the car into thinking nothing has changed and help you avoid annoying "bulb out" warnings. We generally recommend them for use on most modern European applications instead of normal harnesses since they do a great job at providing stable power to the ballasts and canceling bulb out warnings.
Optional LED Halos: Though LED halos may not be for everybody, if you're looking for the cleanest, most simple, most reliable setup, we highly recommend the Profile Performance Pivot Halos. Not only are they the brightest, most uniformly lit halos currently on the market, but they double as a switchback turn signal with your blinker circuit. The integrated controllers are extremely easy to setup with only three wires (white, amber, and ground) and allow you to run the white mode continuously until interrupted by the signal--at which point they will blink amber. Once the signal stops, the Pivot ring will automatically switch back to its pure white mode.
Optional Housing Sealant: Protection is priceless! When you're putting together a set of high-end fog lights, the last thing you want is moisture in 'em the first time it rains outside. RetroRubber is the most effective way to make sure the original seal is fully restored. For the small price, why anybody wouldn't prevent their new fog lights from fogging up is beyond us. It'll be the best twelve bucks you've ever spent.

I bought this kit for my girl's 2003 BMW 325. After much debate and research to retrofit the OEM Bosch or AL Xenons (that would eventually burn out and fail), I decided to go with the D2S kit from these guys, for two reasons:
1) The availability of purchasing a D2S bulb anywhere at any autopart store. I lose a headlight bulb on a road trip somewhere? No problem, easy swap.
2) Unparalled, crisp cut-off, and wide side beam travel. This car spends a lot of time on heavily forested highways with little street lights. Seeing what's in front of you at night is priority.
A mini H1 would have been a 10 minute swap and little to no modification, but these did take some (permanent) trimming of the bowl. I started with Halogen headlights and IMO it's more straight forward.
I would however recommend programming your car (if you have a BMW or a newer make that looks for bulb failures). These started flickering and eventually shut off after 20 minutes of running, which can be easily rectified with programming the car for Xenon headlights, installing load resistors or capacitors (process is well documented online).
All in all, I'd recommend this kit for anyone looking for a high end quality retrofit kit. My 5 series already has xenons but it may be a candidate in the near future for the MLED projector from these guys.
Absolutely amazing

I installed a D2S kit in my 2016 F350. The stock lights in this truck are TERRIBLE. Just as bad as the ones in my 2008 F350 I retrofitted as well but not until three years ago. I put an H1 kit in that. I was very pleased with that upgrade but these are even better.
My skills at this are terrible and it took me a long time to get it done but the results are absolutely amazing. The light output is better than that of my 2014 S4 with factory HIDs. Thank you TRS for making an affordable product that gives an incredible result. They were definitely worth the money.
Absolutely Amazed

Just finished the install of this kit in my truck. One of the best purchases I have ever made. Awesome quality components and the output is amazing. I opted for the square lens version and I am glad I did. Looks great. Would recommend to anyone. This was my first retro and with this kit, I tackled it in a day's time with no issues.
Au top !!!!

Bought this kit back in 2011 and still rocking this kit on my 98 maxima with the 3Five 6K D2S bulbs and MC-R shrouds! Only thing that didn't make it through were the led strips because of the rainy weather.
Epic
by William
I have a 2005 WRX. Factory lighting left much to be desired! I've used eBay HID kits in the past, and always ended up with a blueish light, but really nothing better in terms of visibility. I can't believe the difference with this kit! My application required quite a bit of cutting to make these big boys fit, but MAN was it worth the effort. I love how they look on or off. Great light distribution, color, and that epic cutoff you know you want! I get compliments all the time. I love The Retrofit Source!
