INSTALLATION DOCUMENTS

Morimoto: Has always been our go-to-guys when it came to HID, and when they released their line of LED products, we had our doubts. Performance left a little to be desired compared to some of the more refined models on the market. BUT (and thats a big BUT) that has since changed with the new X-VF (Virtual Filament) bulbs! While in all-honesty Morimoto didn't exactly nail it the first time around with the XB LED bulbs, what we have from them today is about as modern as it gets and much more in-line with the quality and performance we've all come to expect from the brand.

Instant: Beautiful, bright light. Nearly infinite life span. Great for signal, marker, brake, and tail lights. Morimoto's new X-VF 1157 LED bulbs are an instant upgrade in the looks and performance for the lighting on your car from bumper to bumper.

So What's new with Version Two? Whereas the now discontinued XB bulbs were really only designed to "look cool" and be "bright" - we all know the saying "power is nothing without control" and that was really the focus behind the new X-VF bulbs. They utilize far more refined optics that distribute light in every direction, most notably improving the side and rear-ward spread. What that means for you? By making full use of all the facets in any turn/brake signal housing - They're way brighter! (and they still look cool!)

Fade-On-Function: Morimoto's new fade-on function drivers are pretty unique too compared to any other bulbs on the market. Utilized on the switchback version of the XV-F bulbs, the drivers gradually ramp up the intensity of the white when it kicks back on after the amber signal is turned off. A small detail, but a neat one none the less.

Make Contact: Thin wire contacts? CK? Non CK? All of that is so 2015! To ensure perfect contact at the base of the bulbs, Morimoto has spec'd fat boy (aka wide) contacts - which are much less likely to bend out of the way or break off. In addition, there is now NO NEED to worry whether you have a CK or Non-CK circuit - since the drivers are now universal. We think that in and of itself is an amazing convenience.

Ford and Toyota Vehicles: There is known issues with how the factory wiring functions using the X-VF switchback bulbs. Because of these known issues, we cannot recommend them for Ford or Tacoma / Tundra vehicles at this time.

Can-bus: The X-VF LED bulbs are can-bus friendly and should not cause "lamp out" errors in MOST applications. If however your vehicle requires more resistance, we recommend using the Morimoto HD Load Resistors which will instantly and safely resolve any issues there.

Protected: Heat management is crucial for reliability when it comes to LEDs. Using just six LED chips to produce peak output, the X-VF LED generates less heat compared to other bulbs that sometimes use up to 48 chips. The CREE XB-D LEDs are mounted inside the lens, which sits atop a ribbed aluminum heat sink. Inside; an integrated thermal resistor reduces output as a secondary level of protection.

CREE LEDs: For more info on what's inside, you can download the CREE Data sheet on the emitters that Morimoto uses in the X-VF LED bulbs.

2015 Kia Soul !

by -

Originally purchased 1157 switchbacks but quickly discovered my model Kia had an unusual socket style and could not utilize the switchbacks and this is where things got even easier for me. I contacted TRS and requested an exchange due to my oversight and they willingly agreed! Despite my own mistake, really stand up people for that.
I went ahead and just purchased the correct 1157 amber, installed, tested and they work wonderfully. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRS. Do your research however, all vehicles are not the same.

Great brightness, if only the switchback actually worked!

by

I tried installing these bulbs, and while they look amazing in parking light (white) mode and in turn signal mode while the parking lights are off, their switchback function is completely useless: while the parking lights or headlights are on, turning on my turn signal makes the bulb switch to SOLID AMBER, no blinking at all, making it useless as a turn signal. The previous generation of XB LED bulbs did not have this issue. I dont know, maybe its just something related to the wiring on my car?

Not bright enough

by

I tried them on a 97 Toyota Camry front turn signals/position lights. I have clear lens lamps (not OEM). These bulbs look so beautiful through the lens! They flashing light is also good! The 3 stat review is because of their constant on light output (position light duty) . They are very dim even compared to old incandescent bulbs. I see no reason why Morimoto chose such a low light level as the LED can clearly do more (see my comment about their flashing mode light). I really liked the look of those but I'm going to replace them with something brighter.

I love these switchbacks

by

I installed these on my 77 GMC Suburban. I had cheap switchbacks from ebay installed and was going to build a simple switchback circuit, but that meant cutting into the original wiring, that I didnt really was looking forward too. And the cheap switchbacks werent that bright and the DRL was blue-ish..which I dont like

now the Morimoto X-VF switchbacks are AWESOME...so 5 STARS

the white is a 4300-5000k from what I can see. really nice white-ish. The SOFT ON feature for the DRL is AWESOME and makes the amber really stand out. I have gotten very nice comments on a small video I posted on my project page:

Super bright tail/brake light

by

Got these in RED to replace the stock bulb in my '17 Ninja 300. Now my tail light is twice as bright as before. Brake light is twice that! Too bright I'd say. I had to mask off the top-firing lens in consideration of others on the road. The side-firing light was more than enough! This eye-test was done indoors, I might use the bulb's full potential once summer gets I get some real-road feedback.

Bulb excepts my expectations.

Worked perfectly!

by

I decided to convert the front signals on my bike from a single filament bulb to a dual filament socket so that I could use these switchbacks for added light and style. All I had to do was install resistors and the turn signal worked perfectly. They are super bright and look great!! My lens housings on my bike have a smoke tint to them. The lights are still more than bright enough that in pure sunlight I can still see them shining in the reflection of other vehicles. The white light shines bright when the turn signals are off and switch yellow like the are suppose to with the signal on. The construction of the bulbs themselves are top notch and high quality. Built to last for a long time.

At first when figuring out the wiring for the conversion the bulbs would turn yellow but not flash. The resistors fixed that perfectly.
