Perfect: The Morimoto Standalone wiring harnesses are the perfect solution for a headlight upgrade on vehicles with finicky headlight systems. Say goodbye to "bulb out" warning lamps and flickering caused by "can-bus" systems.
Effective: Each canbus headlight harness has a built-in resistor pack to mimic the characteristics of a standard halogen bulb being plugged in to your stock harness, tricking the car into thinking nothing has changed. Check out this video showing just how simple these are to setup.
Powerful: The Morimoto Standalone wiring harness also features Japanese-made Rubycon 6800uF capacitors to help jump-start the ballasts and keep them running smoothly - using the power directly from the vehicle’s factory headlight circuit.
Euro-Centric: Morimoto clearly developed specifically with the VW and Euro market in mind, these are known to work well on cars like the newer VW MK5 Golfs, Jettas, BMW E46, etc. The Standalone wiring harnesses DO NOT however work well on domestic cars/trucks like Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep. You guys need Morimoto's "Mopar Spec" Stuff!
Simple: With fewer connections to make compared to something like a full relay wire harness; even your mom could set this thing up it's that easy. Input here, output there...done.
Sold as a pair: The standalone canbus headlight harnesses come as a pair, one for each side of the car. They are meant to be used as a substitute for a full relay harness, not in addition to one.
NOTE: Note that these will NOT work with vehicles that have DRL's (Daytime Running Lamps) on their low beam circuit due to the pulsed low voltage current. For vehicles with DRLs on the high beam bulb, no problem.

These are quite big and I had one die at 2 years, another at 3 years, so count on them not lasting. If you're buying from outside the USA you might want to buy a spare set. They do fix Canbus errors though (in my case in a Skoda, which is a VAG car).
I have a 2010 Ford Explorer and since I decided to install an HID kit it´s been very hard to keep the factory bulb out function and the autolamps. I tried a CanBus error free ballasts and still the error came up, added a relay harness and resistors and it would trick the computer so no error but for some reason couldn't use the auto lamps, it would still give me an error on the passenger side (Right side). It was until I tried the standalone CanBus harness, now the installation is simplified, I can use the autolamps error free, I mimicked a blown bulb disconnecting it and it immediately gave a "check lamp" error (with the resistors it didn't give any errors). So now my truck behaves like factory, just the way I wanted and the best part is with a simplified installation, can´t be any happier, thanks!
I have a pair of vw passat option 3 headlights with a cheap ballast and connections. They were nothing but problems and headaches. The low beam on the passenger side would flicker at times and the driver side would not turn on and I would error messages in my dash. I installed the Morimoto ballast and stand alone can-bus and that fixed every thing. No more issues. This was worth the money.
Bought another vendor's "Error Free" Vehicle Specific HID kit for my car, plugged it in, well, guess what? It wasn't error free at all! In fact, I was not only met with a "Bulb out warning" on my dash, but was also "gifted" with HIDs that didn't turn on if it was below 45°F! The vendor advised me to wire up relays, which worked to get the lights to come on, but didn't solve the warning light on my dash, and also had a loud buzz from the relays. The other vendor's support stopped at this point, and I went out on my own to find the answers.
The Retrofit Source came to the rescue with the CAN-BUS Standalone modules! Literally took less than 60 seconds per side to pop them in (followed by much longer to unwire the other company's relays!) and I was rewarded with HIDs that turn on *every* time (no flicker and no buzz, no matter what the temperature) and, almost more rewarding than being able to see, is the fact that I *DON'T* see a bulb out warning any more!
I really wish I would have stumbled upon TRS sooner, the slight premium in price is worth every cent. No headaches, the product works as advertised, and it is of the highest quality. I know where the rest of my lighting purchases will be made from now on!
