Lucky You: The EJ20 and EJ25 are famously rock-solid flat fours. What isn't solid is the performance of those aging stock headlights. Fortunately, the Morimoto Retro-Quik system is designed as a direct bolt-on upgrade for a big performance boost inside the headlights on all 08-11 Imprezas and 08-14 WRX/STIs.
Bi-Xenon Projectors: The most compact high performance Bi-xenon projectors from Morimoto. With their small framework and compact 2.5” lens, they fit where most don’t. Convenient mounting points match the bolt pattern on several modern OEM Japanese applications, making them a direct swap in many cases. But don’t let their size fool you. We're gonna go ahead and say not many projectors will out-shine the 4TL-R. Their light output is similar (we might even say better) than the bigger Morimoto Mini D2S 3.0. Even with a clear lens swap and an experienced hand, you would be hard-pressed to tune any OEM projectors to come close in the performance department!
Mounting Hardware: 100% Engineered in the US. Laser cut from automotive-grade G10 fiberglass. The Retro-Quik brackets at the heart of the kit are designed to adapt the Morimoto 4TL-R Bi-xenon projectors directly in place of the unsophisticated stock units. Using the original mounting holes paired with new hardware, they are the beauty behind the kit that makes it an easy install. You're welcome.
Optional HID Ballasts: The optional Matsushita G5 ballasts are Subaru's choice for the OEM HID option. Using three mounting points per ballast, these mount to the underside of the headlight in the OEM-molded spot, and route their outputs inside the headlight with a slick water-resistant seal. Cleanest retrofit ever? We think so!
Optional D2S HID Bulbs: Homegrown by Morimoto to out-perform any alternatives on the market when installed in projector-based headlight…and it shows. We admit the latest generation XB HID bulbs are pretty impressive when compared to other bulbs, and even older Morimoto bulbs. At the heart of the XB bulbs is their perfectly-aligned 100% Philips quartz glass capsule that houses high quality halide salts from German-supplier Messer. In our annual lux comparison test, they produced nearly the same luminosity (intensity) as the industry benchmark Osram CBI bulbs at 5500K. No, you're not seeing things here, but yes you will be seeing everything at night.
Optional Relay Harness: As one of the most important parts in any HID lighting upgrade, don't skimp out when it comes to your wiring. It doesn't matter how good your ballasts are or how good your bulbs are, if your harness is a piece of crap, when it gives out your headlights are gonzo. The Morimoto HD Relay harness is easily worth the premium price compared to cheaper alternatives. With triple-sealed twin relays, 14ga. stranded copper wiring, over-molded fittings, and plug-n-play functionality, it will ensure everything functions properly and permanently from the original in-cabin controls. It’s easily the best headlight wire harness out there.
Optional High Beam Splitters: Double high beams?! whaaaat! Since the Camry has a pre-existing halogen high beam and the new projectors in the Retro-Quik system have their own bi-xenon high beams, you’ll have no problem lighting up the back roads. Put simply, the optional Morimoto high beam splitters allow you to make this feature work easily without any cutting or splicing to the factory wiring by diverting power from the halogen bulb into the projector’s high beam solenoid, making them both work at the same time.
Optional Housing Sealant: Protection is priceless! When you're putting together a set of high-end headlights, the last thing you want is moisture in 'em the first time it rains outside. RetroRubber RetroRubber is the most effective way to make sure the original seal is fully restored. For the small price, why anybody wouldn’t prevent their new headlights from fogging up is beyond us. It’ll be the best twelve bucks you’ve ever spent.

I'm not a DIY expert by any means. So I rely on these Retro-Quick kits that TRS sells. I initially purchased the RQ MiniD2S 2.0 kit for my 08 Scion XB. They were no brighter than my OEM projectors with the squirrel finder removed. I was deeply disappointed after spending so much money and time opening the headlights.
Once the new 4TL-R RQ kits came out I immediately jumped online and purchased a set. Opened up the headlights, tossed the old Mini D2S in the garbage, trimmed a bunch and secured the new projectors in place. I didn't even bother to test fit the projectors before sealing them up. Slapped them back on the XB. Powered them up and BAM. Night turned into day right in front of me. Man I was so joyed. Rotation was spot on, had to align it a little.
Man, I wished these came out long ago so I didn't have to waste my money on the MD2S 2.0. I was totally impressed but one thing I do have to point out, they are not wider than OEM 4gTL that I have on the Odyssey. But definitely worth it since I didn't have to tune it with clear lenses and spacer mod (which I had to do with the OEM 4gTL).
Thank you for reading!
So, EX-girlfriend bought me this for Christmas. Waited till summer to install and today 5/9/15 i did. I guess the newer brackets are carbon fiber or something but my older kit used steel ones. The provided bolts did not fit the predrilled holes on the brackets, so maybe that's changed, but I had to enlarge the holes and use my own hardware. I was slightly disappointed that it didn't come "tuned" as i expected it to. Also, the projector is supposed to come with little parts of it trimmed of so they fit the stock housing. Both of mine were trimmed for the driver side headlight by accident. Nothing a little grinding couldn't splve. Overall though, it's bright. Has a sharp cut off. But again, no color amd i had to fiddle quite some bit to make them work so im a little disappointed. As reference, i've retrofitted three E36 M3 headlights with RX-AFS projectors, one 09 civic with RX-AFS projectors, a 96 civic with FXR projectors, and a SV1000s with morimoto mini H1 projectors.
Awesome kit, have done a few retro's and I must say this is the way to go. No drilling , cutting or praying that you don't break something. Everything fits right in and you could really knock out the install pretty quickly if you needed to.
product- really happy with the morimoto components, night driving is so much more enjoyable with these bad boys And let's face it they look awesome when your lighting up the road for the cars in front of you.
TRS- have purchased a few items from TRS and every time everything shows up as it should and in a very timely manner. Would recommend TRS to anyone looking for lighting products. Great products and services.
Overall if your thinking of retrofitting your lights go this route, no guesswork and a great overall product.
This was my first retrofit experience, although I had replaced headlights, and installed the less expensive (read: inferior) HID kits from other sources. The kit was shipped quickly, and was not missing any parts upon arrival; in fact, there was a checklist in the package with human checkmarks! Just to be safe, I tested everything before even attempting installation, it all worked as expected. I was impressed of the quality of all the components.
As far as the installation went -- TRS provides both PDF documentation and has a Quick Tips video on Youtube, both of which were extremely useful. Read them or watch a few times before installation, it will go much faster. Give yourself plenty of time, and don't rush. I had to use a dremel and take a bit of plastic off by the upper outside adjustment point, on the inside of both reflector assemblies before installing the projector (testing before putting the lenses on had rotational alignment issues).
Finally, I was very impressed with the output of the projectors, and the overall OEM look of the kit -- everything fit as it should, and having Bi-Xenon plus the high beams throws an incredible amount of light onto the road. Sure, there's better projectors out there, with better optics, but for the ease of installation, this kit can't be beat.
Installed this on my Impreza a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier with the outcome. It's easily at the top of my list for most rewarding mod to my car so far.
On a side note, the TRS support crew has been awesome through the entire process, before and after. They were great and communicated exceptionally the whole time.
