Renowned: The Morimoto Elite Systems have earned their reputation amongst many as the aftermarket's best set of HID's. We urge you to check out the specs below, read the Reviews and then ask yourself whether your ability to see well while driving at night is worth saving a couple bucks?
Optioned Out: With a variety of available options, the Morimoto Elite HID system can be configured perfectly just for you. This helpful video goes over each of the options shown above.
HID Ballasts: Designed in California by Morimoto’s engineer, Yoshi Ishida, the Morimoto XB 2.0 HID Ballasts are just as good looking on the outside as they are well-engineered on the inside. They are available in both 35w and 50w versions, use proprietary software by the pros at Hylux paired with packaging perfection from the masters at Morimoto. This is today’s most modern iteration of a model that has sold more than half a million units since inception, and we don’t think it can really get any better!
H11 HID Bulbs: Homegrown by Morimoto to out-perform any alternatives on the market when installed in projector-based headlight…and it shows. We admit the latest generation XB HID bulbs are pretty impressive when compared to other bulbs, and even older Morimoto bulbs. At the heart of the XB bulbs is their perfectly-aligned 100% Philips quartz glass capsule that houses high quality halide salts from German-supplier Messer. In our annual lux comparison test, they produced nearly the same luminosity (intensity) as the industry benchmark Osram CBI bulbs at 5500K. No, you're not seeing things here, but yes you will be seeing everything at night.
H11A vs. H11B? This is important to ensure you don't create a shadow in your light output! We can confirm fitment on most newer Japanese vehicles as needing H11B, and most Hyundai/Kia vehicles as needing "H11A" (regardless of what stock size states) This Picture and Video will help you make the right choice!
Wire Harness: As one of the most important parts in any HID lighting upgrade; don't skimp out when it comes to your wiring. It doesn't matter how good your ballasts are. How good your bulbs are. If your harness is a piece of crap, when it gives out your headlights are gonzo. Morimoto’s harnesses are the best on the market and easily worth their premium price compared to cheaper alternatives. No matter which one is right for your application, the harness features triple-sealed central relay packs, 14ga stranded copper wiring, over-molded fittings, and plug-n-play functionality. This will ensure everything properly (and permanently) works with your vehicle’s original in-cabin controls.
Optional Canbus Harnesses: Instead of a traditional relayed harness that draws power from the battery, Morimoto’s Standalone Canbus harnesses use two individual sub-harnesses to keep a load on the factory wiring. Recommended for vehicles that recognize when a bulb is out, these contain a series of capacitors and resistors to trick the car into thinking nothing has changed and help you avoid annoying "bulb out" warnings. We generally recommend them for use on most modern European applications instead of normal harnesses since they do a great job at providing stable power to the ballasts and canceling any warnings.
Backed Up: Let's not forget the 5-year warranty on the entire kit*. The Elite system is designed to run for 2500 hours, so that's what it's guaranteed for. Don't buy into empty promises from other places offering BS "lifetime" warranties. Nothing lasts forever, and if you think "the other guy" will be there to pick up the phone or even stay in business long enough to assist you when there's a problem; guess again! [*XB55 H11 HID kits have a 3 year warranty]
User-Approved: By satisfied enthusiasts with all kinds of cars and trucks. With a quick and easy search we pulled up install examples (1,2,3,4,5,6) that span several generations of the Elite HID systems! If you haven’t made a decision just yet, keep reading!

i tried a cheap ebay hid kit years ago and had nothing but problems with it (flickering lights, bad ballast, etc.). i gave up and went back to using the stock halogen bulbs. not too long ago i saw led bulbs were becoming a thing and i tried three different brands. while they all gave an improved color output, none of them were brighter than the stock halogens, if anything they were less bright and almost dangerous to use at night--even in clear weather & dry roads. i did a lot of research and came to realize that projection requires HID (led tech just isn't there yet), and i rolled the dice with this morimoto elite kit. i went with the full relay setup (i think you're nuts to rely on the car's stock wiring), and after about an hour had it fully setup. i still can not believe how bright the lights are. i was concerned that 35w 5500 bulbs would be too blue, but they are crystal clear and look white to me, no color at all which is great. fantastic product, i really hope it lasts as i could never go back to driving with what i had before. i actually just purchased a set of clear lenses for my projectors (from this site) that i plan on installing soon so i might still yet be in for a surprise.
Purchased a set for my 2018 Tacoma. I've had experience on the cheaper HID sets out there on the market. I was always on the "okay" side of it. Installed these H11 Morimoto Elite's and i was blown away!!! Light output is really bright and the cutoff was clean! Don't settle for the cheaper ones out there! This is well worth the $$$!
I wanted to finally write a review. I purchased a set of 35 watts back in 2012 for my wife's 2012 Toyota Highlander and am glad to say they are still going strong. Her truck is daily driven so the headlights get plenty of use and still function flawlessly. I have plenty of experience with less expensive HID kits which always seem to fail after 1 or 2 years but I am glad to say these Morimoto are still going strong after 6 years. Thanks TRS.
After having gone through two separate kits (Xentec 35w & Kensun 35 and 55w kits) I can tell you what a relief it is to finally have a quality product. Xentec and Kensun, total garbage. Not bright enough, always had flickering/pulsating issues, misfiring, and early bulb deaths. Researching online for a better solution always pointed fingers to TRS. Now I see why! I purchased H11 XB55w with 5500k bulbs. The amount of light that comes out is amazing. However, the color of the bulb is not what I was expecting. When going to 55w, the color truly gets washed off. It is a very warm white (almost yellow, not really, idk). I wish I would have gotten the 6500k. Purely aesthetics I know but I am still extremely satisfied with the light output, no misfires, no flickering, it just works great.
I bought this kit for my 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport Wagon. Install was easy and didn't require any wire splicing. The H11 heat up quickly and are very, VERY bright. I spoke with customer service prior to purchasing. They were quick and very detailed with their responses. They didn't try to up-sell me on anything. In fact, they went as far as telling me what accessories I didn't need to waste my money on. I would highly recommend this product and The Retrofit Source company.
These H11 Morimoto lights shine! The wiring that came with the kit is top of the line very tidy. The TRS team is really there to help you I couldn't be more please with the whole process. Matter of fact I'm buying my next kit for different car soon!
I installed these on my new Lexus CT200h and i could not be happier. I was worried through hearing in the forums for Lexus about the auto on feature not working and the HID would fail to turn on with other brands but no misfires at all. The difference in light output compared to other non quality HID is literally night and day. I got the 5500k color and have had so many compliments about them. Install was easy and plug and play. I highly recommend it
Everything came nicely packed and sooner than expected, the instructions from the Morimoto website were easy to follow (this is my second HID kit install in over 10 years). My only issue was with the wiring harness. The quality of the harness is great, but the battery leads are way too long and the leads for the ballasts were short, at least for my application. I personally would have rather have shorter battery leads and longer ballast connectors. Other than that I will have to keep testing them and see how they hold up.
Yes, this might be long, but Im hoping to answer ALL the questions I had before buying this kit and to shed light (pun intended) on some of the things I noticed. Hope this helps!
If you are reading reviews, you are most likely in the same boat as I was. You're asking yourself "Is this really worth the money when I can order something similar off Amazon for much cheaper?" The answer to that question is this: You get what you pay for. This is an EXTREMELY well built and crafted HID kit. All high-end materials and nothing is compromised. Hell, the wires are braided with a nylon-type material for extra strength. This kit will easily out-last any other kit on the market.
Now for performance, these things definitely put out some light. But again, im sure you're asking "is it worth it?" And my answer to that would be this: yes, they are worth it. BUT, based off performance ALONE (not quality) they perform very similar to your $40-$80 Amazon kits with only 3 main differences; Color, Throw, and Intensity.
1.) Color: The Morimoto are more accurately color-rated. I've found that after ordering two of the exact same Amazon Kits both rated for 6000K, one kit seemed to be more blue than the other. With Morimoto, you don't have to worry about the colors not matching up. They will be exactly what you wanted. (But note the color shift with the 55W Ballast. A 6500K bulb, straight out of the box, will look closer to 5500K when powered by a 55W Ballast. Again, they won't "fade" into a 5500K over time. So when deciding to go with a 55W, the bulbs will shift a little less than 1000K lower straight out of the box.) So, if you are like me and want just a SLIGHT hint of blue (somewhere in between 6500K and 5500K) go with the 6500K 55W and you'll be a very pleased with the result.
2.) Throw: The Morimoto seem to “throw” light further down the road. Now, to be honest, it’s not much further than the Amazon kit. So while the Morimoto kit doesn’t necessarily blow the Amazon kit out of the water, it does tend to throw the light slightly further down the road.
3.) Intensity: The Morimoto kit easily has a much greater intensity than the Amazon kit. By that, I mean the over-all “apparent brightness” is greater. These seem to have a much wider field of view and the light output in that field of view is much cleaner and clearer than that of the Amazon kit. The Amazon kit seemed to have a smaller central point of intensity, then fade out gradually from that central point. This created a “washed out” look around the edges of the field of view. Now the Morimoto kit on the other hand has an enormous central point of intensity and barely fades at all around the edges of the field of view. This creates a much more crisp and cleaner light output and is genuinely feels like perfectly even light distribution.
All in all, if you are considering a QUALITY lighting upgrade, these are the best out there. Period. TRS prides itself in only delivering the best products out there and thats exactly what they do. While most people, driving in normal conditions with factory projectors, won’t be absolutely blown away by the performance of these when compared to a solid Amazon brand; this is still an upgrade very worthy of the price. The quality of this kit alone speaks for itself.
Here is a link to some pictures I took if you would like an actual iPhone quality picture of comparison:
Just want to say I am impressed with The Retrofit Source service and quality. This is my first official purchase with TRS however I have been a recipient of their products as gifts. My brother originally purchased the H11 Morimoto Elite for his 2013 4Runner. He was so impressed with the quality and service he purchased a set for my 2013 4Runner. He has since purchased another set for his wife's new 4Runner. After having used these lights in my own vehicle for over a year now I don't think i could go back to using any standard or less quality lighting system. I am so satisfied with the product I have bought a set for my wife's new 4Runner. The shipping was free and came a day earlier than expected. My wife appreciates the improved lighting over her stock halogen bulbs. When the time comes I plan to purchase my next set of lights from TRS.
