Round Three: Based around the best performing Mini D2S projector to date, the Morimoto Mini D2S Stage III System features excellent performance at an accessible price.
Bi-Xenon Projectors: Are bound to change the game, yet again. Head to head with any OEM projector, the quality is spot on, but the Morimoto Mini D2S 4.0 is: 1) So much easier to retrofit with their extra long mounting shaft and 2) So much brighter. They actually failed to pass FMVSS108 testing only because the measured lux at certain points throughout their beam pattern exceeded the maximum allowed! With 4th generation Mini D2S optics powering across their curved cutoff shield and through the standard Kuria Optic clear lens, the Mini D2S 4.0 is a force to be reckoned with. Razor Sharp, unbeatable width, perfectly distributed gradient of light down to the foreground, and a high beam that’ll put some off road LED bars to shame.
Shrouds: Basically, they're the trim piece that adds the finishing touch to your new headlight retrofit. They cover the projector after it’s installed to restore the factory-finished look inside the housings. With so many different shapes, sizes, and designs available; we really recommend picking one that suits the geometry inside of your headlights, and also your personal preference on how they look. Check out all of the projector shroud options we offer, and take your pick!
HID Ballasts: Morimoto’s XB ballasts are a functional work of art. While the industrial-edge design by California native Artur Saakyan looks great from the outside, they’re packed with too much modern tech on the inside to cover it all in on place. Their DSP 3.0 circuit maximizes reliability, input and output efficiency. Their ability to warm the bulbs up to full operating intensity quickly is matched by few. Hardly are all aftermarket-HID ballasts the same, and the XB’s make that clear in most every category in our opinion.
D2S HID Bulbs: Homegrown by Morimoto to out-perform any alternatives on the market when installed in projector-based headlights…and it shows. We admit the latest generation XB HID bulbs are pretty impressive when compared to other bulbs, and even older Morimoto bulbs. At the heart of the XB bulbs is their perfectly-aligned 100% Philips quartz glass capsule that houses high quality halide salts from German-supplier Messer. In our annual lux comparison test, they produced nearly the same luminosity (intensity) as the industry benchmark Osram CBI bulbs at 5500K. No, you're not seeing things here, but yes you will be seeing everything at night.
Wire Harness: As one of the most important parts in any HID lighting upgrade; don't skimp out when it comes to your wiring. It doesn't matter how good your ballasts are. How good your bulbs are. If your harness is a piece of crap, when it gives out your headlights are gonzo. Morimoto’s harnesses are the best on the market and easily worth their premium price compared to cheaper alternatives. No matter which one is right for your application, the harness features triple-sealed central relay packs, 14ga stranded copper wiring, over-molded fittings, and plug-n-play functionality. This will ensure everything properly (and permanently) works with your vehicle’s original in-cabin controls.
Optional Canbus Harnesses: Instead of a traditional relayed harness that draws power from the battery, Morimoto’s Standalone Canbus harnesses use two individual sub-harnesses to keep a load on the factory wiring. Recommended for vehicles that recognize when a bulb is out, these contain a series of capacitors and resistors to trick the car into thinking nothing has changed and help you avoid annoying "bulb out" warnings. We generally recommend them for use on most modern European applications instead of normal harnesses since they do a great job at providing stable power to the ballasts and canceling bulb out warnings.
Optional LED Halos: Though LED halos may not be for everybody, if you’re looking for the cleanest, most simple, most reliable setup, we highly recommend the Profile Performance Pivot Halos. Not only are they the brightest, most uniformly lit halos currently on the market, but they double as a switchback turn signal with your blinker circuit. The integrated controllers are extremely easy to setup with only three wires (white, amber, and ground) and allow you to run the white mode continuously until interrupted by the signal – at which point they will blink amber. Once the signal stops, the Pivot ring will automatically switch back to its pure white mode.
Optional Housing Sealant: Protection is priceless! When you're putting together a set of high-end headlights, the last thing you want is moisture in 'em the first time it rains outside. RetroRubber is the most effective way to make sure the original seal is fully restored. For the small price, why anybody wouldn’t prevent their new headlights from fogging up is beyond us. It’ll be the best twelve bucks you’ve ever spent.

I bought this kit for my girl's 2003 BMW 325. After much debate and research to retrofit the OEM Bosch or AL Xenons (that would eventually burn out and fail), I decided to go with the D2S kit from these guys, for two reasons:
1) The availability of purchasing a D2S bulb anywhere at any autopart store. I lose a headlight bulb on a road trip somewhere? No problem, easy swap.
2) Unparalled, crisp cut-off, and wide side beam travel. This car spends a lot of time on heavily forested highways with little street lights. Seeing what's in front of you at night is priority.
A mini H1 would have been a 10 minute swap and little to no modification, but these did take some (permanent) trimming of the bowl. I started with Halogen headlights and IMO it's more straight forward.
I would however recommend programming your car (if you have a BMW or a newer make that looks for bulb failures). These started flickering and eventually shut off after 20 minutes of running, which can be easily rectified with programming the car for Xenon headlights, installing load resistors or capacitors (process is well documented online).
All in all, I'd recommend this kit for anyone looking for a high end quality retrofit kit. My 5 series already has xenons but it may be a candidate in the near future for the MLED projector from these guys.
First time using the mini d2s (used the fxr kit twice before). This kit was MUCH easier to work with. The output is great as well... I'd definitely consider this for my next retro.
I love driving at night!! Congratulations to TRS
Installed in my 2009 Cobalt. What a difference. NOTHING beats retrofitted HID projectors. The cut off is clean, and the brightness is BRIGHT. IT also DOESN'T blind oncoming drivers!!! It's amazing
I'm still awestruck by the light I get out of these when I flip on the high beams.
I got the square lens version because I thought it'd look better in my square reflectors and I think they turned out great. Installation was fairly easy with only a bit of sanding before I could bolt in the projectors.
It's been a few weeks and they seem to be holding up well.
I installed a D2S kit in my 2016 F350. The stock lights in this truck are TERRIBLE. Just as bad as the ones in my 2008 F350 I retrofitted as well but not until three years ago. I put an H1 kit in that. I was very pleased with that upgrade but these are even better.
My skills at this are terrible and it took me a long time to get it done but the results are absolutely amazing. The light output is better than that of my 2014 S4 with factory HIDs. Thank you TRS for making an affordable product that gives an incredible result. They were definitely worth the money.
I have done 2 retrofits with this kit and love the lighting it provides. I now enjoy driving at night. I wish I could fit this set in my 94 Mustang, but had to use the H1 kit.
I am from Bangalore & use a 2012 Hyundai i20,the high beam was very narrow & i would drive blind through corners. Now thanks to these snug fit(X,square) projectors the beam throw is wide & it works wonders with the halogen in my highbeams.
I wish i had chosen better bulbs, placing another order for standard Osrams,so i suggest if you want warm colour bulbs pick the Philips or Osrams.(majority of bulb price is for the salts used in them!)
And the Denso's dint prove that reliable, one frustratingly going out after 20mins with wild blinking after install(hence one star less),sent it back to USA(TRS) & lost in transit. Now again ordered single ballast.
If your headlight has the space then maybe the FXr is better cos i felt the projectors waste a little light through an opening at the top & the "Panasquare shroud which i use has it glowing bit brighter at the top.
Still happy with the way how TRS is handling everything.
I have a 2005 WRX. Factory lighting left much to be desired! I've used eBay HID kits in the past, and always ended up with a blueish light, but really nothing better in terms of visibility. I can't believe the difference with this kit! My application required quite a bit of cutting to make these big boys fit, but MAN was it worth the effort. I love how they look on or off. Great light distribution, color, and that epic cutoff you know you want! I get compliments all the time. I love The Retrofit Source!
I have Toyota Land Cruiser 100 VX, 2003 year made. After installation of this kit, lighting performance increased, no more painful driving at nights and while raining.
Thanks a lot for high end quality kit!!!
