High Five! Morimoto has officially achieved Projector-Perfection with the 5th gen Mini D2S Bi-xenons! If you're looking for the ultimate beam pattern boner; it's really not going to get any better than this folks. Perfectly balanced beam. The crispiest ECE style cutoff. Unquestionable OEM-quality all packed into a projector that's undeniably easy to install. If we died and went to fog light heaven, the 5.0 would be greeting us at the gate.

Projector-Perfection: There are other projectors that produce brighter hot spots. There are other projectors that have unholy amounts of width. But no other option creates the perfect balance of width & hotspot lux (aka distance) quite like the 5.0. In order to create the ultimate weapon for driving in the dark; Morimoto baked in best practices from a variety of well-respected OEM and aftermarket projectors. With over a decade of experience, we trust that their latest and greatest equates to the perfect all-around perfomer.

Distance: The hot spot on the new 5.0 bi-xenon is roughly 70% brighter than the already-impressive 4.0 design. While the high beam unloads a lot more volume of light; virtually no additional intensity has been reserved. What that means: You get the maximum benefit from your bulbs & ballasts in default mode--where drivers spend 99% of their time. The controlled decrease in intensity from the hyper-hotspot down through the foreground results in a distribution of light that makes driving at night very comfortable & safe. Why? Because too much intensity on the ground too close to the front of your vehicle will make your eyes adjust, compromising your ability to see very far. Science!

Width: Power is nothing without control, and even the best D2S bulbs and 50w ballasts won't always result in a satisfying output when projected out on the road improperly--so the KEY is really how that light is deployed. Thanks to the beauty in the center of this beast [all new optics package + flat cast cutoff shield] You really end up with a beam pattern that's extremely wide and flat, with zero bowing. But that's not all: The position of the shield has been fine-tuned so that there is a band of intense light that spans side-to-side directly under the cutoff line. RX350 Bi-xenons, S2000's, LS430s, SC430--all of the best from Koito now need to bite their tongue, because that's all they had on Morimoto prior to the 5.0 party!

Anti-Reflective Coating Lens: The blue tint to the lens is more than marketing fluff too. That's an AR coating, and it serves a real purpose. AR coatings increase the transmission of light through the glass all while decreasing bleed. The result? 10% more light and less glare compared to a traditional clear lens. The blue-hue may not be for everybody, but in this case we're down. Read more about AR coatings HERE.

Hardware Upgrades: Forget the finicky 2 piece bulb holders found on the 4.0s, these come standard with the MotoHolders: an all-new one-piece design that's far easier to work with. The new CNC machined aluminum lock rings are not only pretty looking, but they're 300% stronger than the old die cast part. To tighten them, Morimoto now offers an optional lock-ring tightening tool that works with any 10mm socket set. Torx screws now hold the lens holder on too instead of Philips screws. While the 5.0 get's a big boost in the performance department, it's also clear they've paid attention to the details in the parts department too. We like it!

Installation Summary: On a H4-based fog light reflector for example...Remove the fog light lens, insert the threaded mounting shaft through the pre-existing hole in the back of the reflector, add the alignment plate, tighten the lock ring, and re-seal the fog lights. For other applications, minimal cutting will probably be involved but you'll find the results well worth it! Check out the installation procedure linked above.

I recently purchased and installed the d2s 4.0 in my 2010 Camaro. There is absolutely no comparison from the factory hid projectors to these. Light output is crystal clear The icing on the cake is dealing with TRS before during and after the sale. I will be looking forward to do more business!

Outputs great... hate the cut off

Richard McKenna

I have to say, these were talked up alot. My biggest problem is the cutoff is too low on the left. I have a dead zone only a few yards out on the left side, and if I aim any higher I will blind on coming traffic. also to note, that cutoff means directly in front of your car down range only has the left side upper section filling in most of your lane. The color and output with the Osram bulbs is great. The high beams combined with 9011 bulbs is ridiculous. Just really not happy with the cut off dropping the way it does. You live and you learn. Otherwise on the car since release, and they have been reliable. high beam motors still work. No water in them.

Performs, but...

Damir Alonso

Being that this was my first retrofit it was a learning curve even though the installation was made to be easy. As for performance and light output they do their part, my PS projectors has a fade where the light drops and doesn't meet with the DS as if it's of higher intensity. I swapped the bulbs and made sure they are seated correctly. I did my research and seems like the MiniD2S and Mini H1 suffer from similar issues. The locking nut and bulb spring holder/locking nut is a pain... I suppose it was mainly because of my H13 housing and the modifications I had to do but getting your hands in there for the locking nut was a bit frustrating... after set and glued up the bulb holder and spring kept popping and not aligning with the thread thus more force has to be implemented. At the time of replacing bulbs I'm not looking forward to taking off my bumper and headlamp to do so... that's a major downside to this projector... the dark spot isn't fun either but waaaaay better than stock.

Simple and clean

Derek Fowler

Installation was as simple and easy going as possible. Finish was clean and looks like it was installed in a factory. I can't say enough good things about them. If they can fit and you want to have something top of the line, look nowhere else. These will outshine and have a cleaner cutoff than anything else out there that I'm aware of. Don't hesitate just do it

Simply "Awesome"

Christian Yang

Had an issue with the 3.0s that was running on a 2014 Tacoma and decided to switch the entire unit out and upgraded to 4.0 along with the Panamera shrouds. These lights are hands down far superior to the 3.0s. The light output is so high that I can see so much more and better than I had previously. The 3.0s were out of warranty but still TRS took care of me professionally and could not be more happier. Shout out to Jimmy and the entire TRS crew.

These are Amazing!

Stephen Heald

I had retrofitted a set of RX-330 Non AFS into a 1998 Camaro before there was really any aftermarket retrofitting available. I always enjoyed them until the headlight housings began to break down. I bought a new set of headlights and retrofitted them with the Mini D2S 4.0. They were so easy to install and the output is incredible. So happy with the result.

They Made Me a Believer!

Nathan Aguilar

I have never believed in using anything other than OEM projectors for my lighting needs. After a couple reliable recommendations on these Mini D2S 4.0, I opted to give them a try for my wife's 2015 Nissan Sentra. All I can say is WOW! Clean, even, streak-free lighting as far and as wide as I have ever seen!

Prior to the Sentra, she was driving Mercedes with E46 bi-xenons and the lighting performance was her only hesitation for giving up the car. Upon driving the Sentra, she complained about the dismal lighting, so I went to work. I took her for a test drive and she was blown away. she stated "I'm not going to miss the Mercedes anymore, but are you sure they're not too bright?" Lol!

Anyone will be hard-pressed to best the performance of these units - I just don't see how they can be improved. Design-wise though, the only area that can be improved is the bulb holders. The D2S connector from the Denso slims is very hard to attach around the retaining ring which you have to loosen and turn in sync with the connector. Come time to change a bulb, it seems it's going to be very challenging without removing the headlight assemblies. A simple wire clip holder would have been much more practical. That aside, these projectors get my full vote without reservation.

Give them a try - I'll bet they'll make you a believer too.
