Shrouds and Bezels
Unlike the projectors, ballasts, and bulbs - shrouds, also known as bezels are not an essential here. They simply make the completed retrofit look better from the outside by shrouding the bare projector and the installation hardware from view.
These days, you hardly ever see retrofits done with OEM shrouds for a variety of reasons. They usually don't have the convenient projector mounting flanges that have been designed into our retrofit-specific shrouds, so they're harder to mount in a retrofit. Their chrome finish is often in relatively poor shape after being extracted from the original headlight housing and handled during the retrofit process. Our aftermarket shrouds that have been designed for the task of retrofitting have much more durable chrome finishes to withstand being handled during trimming, test-fitting etc. They also come in a cornucopia of different shapes and sizes for suitability in a wide range of applications.
When picking a shroud, there are two main things to consider:
- What kind of projectors will you be using? The diameter of the lens and the shape of the body plays a role in determining what shroud will fit and cover the projector. For example, the TL bi-xenons are very hard to shroud because their high beam solenoid sits so far forward on the bottom that almost nothing with cover it completely without trimming.
- What is the shape of your headlight housing? Is it oval? Perfectly rounded? Shallow? Deep?
Our recommendation for retrofitters
Picking a shroud may be harder than simply choosing what looks the best. If you're unsure- consult us and we'll be glad to recommend one that will fit well since we've helped thousands of retrofitters with their conversions. We have something for everybody, and the chances are good that we may even have pictures of past retrofits to give you an idea of what your housings could look like. Want the enhanced look that a shroud will offer but can't justify the cost? Check out the discounted "value" version (available under each listing in the drop down box) - they're in close to perfect condition, but may have a couple tiny surface imperfections. These are great especially if you plan on painting them.
